Make A Three-Minute Call, Help Develop A Test For Parkinson?s Based On Voice Recognition

Parkinsons Voice InitiativeAt TEDx Edinburgh today, the BBC reports, mathematician Max Little today launched a new project that uses a speaker's voice to help diagnose Parkinson's disease. Parkinson's, which is a devastating progressive neurological disease that develops very gradually and often starts with very slight tremor in one hand, is notoriously hard to diagnose as there are currently no blood tests to that can help doctors test for the disease. Voice however, says Little, is affected as much by Parkinson's as limb movement and his algorithms can currently detect the symptoms of the disease with 86% accuracy. Little recently became a TED Fellow and is now working to improve the accuracy of his algorithms and hopes to make his tools available to doctors within the next two years. If you have three minutes, you can even help him in his mission by making a simple 3-minute call to an automated system that will ask you to answer a few questions and repeat a few sentences. Besides in the U.S. (1-857-284-8035), the team is also offering call-in numbers in Brazil, Mexico, Spain, Argentina, Canada and the UK.

Support Offered in an Online Degree Program

Online courses can seem difficult to some. Many students have never done an online when they enter into an online degree program. Support is very important if you want to succeed in a degree program. You need to be able to have your questions answered in a reasonable amount of time. Typically, if you attend a smaller school with fewer students in the class your professor will be able to respond quicker. In this article we are going to discuss some of the most popular forms of support a school can offer their online students.

First, let?s talk about the professor/instructor. The instructor will facilitate the course, grade the assignments, and present the lectures. They are one of the most important pieces to an online class. Students need access to the professor at least five days a week. It can be through discussion board posting, email, or phone. The student needs to be able to get clarification on an assignment and ask questions.

The second line of support is the help desk. Most schools offer a 24-hr help desk to assist with any technical difficulties. This is important if a student has to turn in an assignment after hours and they cannot log in. IT support is very important to a successful online student.

The third line of support is usually an academic advisor. They are available to the student for questions on class schedule, graduation, and textbooks. If the question is not directly related to the professor on course content the academic advisor is usually the one they contact. It is important for them to be a full-time employee and easy accessible.

Finally, the last line of support is your peers in the classroom. In most online courses you will be interacting with your classmates on a daily and weekly basis. Sometimes it is easier to contact one of your classmates than your professor. They can usually help you with a question about an assignment or a class in general. It is definitely recommended to use your peers as support when in an online degree program.

As you can see support is a key ingredient if a student is going to be successful in an online degree. The school needs to offer these services if they want to retain students and boost their graduation rates. If they do not offer these types of services a student will certainly find a similar program online that does.

China's Ai Weiwei threatened with bigamy, pornography charges

BEIJING (Reuters) - Chinese police told dissident artist Ai Weiwei on Thursday he could face bigamy and pornography charges and barred him from travel, despite lifting strict bail conditions imposed after his detention.

Ai, who left his house on Thursday for the first time in a year without having to report his whereabouts to police, was held for 81 days without charge in April 2011 mainly in solitary confinement until his conditional release last year.

"If getting back half of my freedom means I'm free, then I'm a free person," Ai said. "But they're restricting my ability to travel and still trying to fabricate crimes."

The threats against Ai underscore Beijing's efforts to muzzle China's most prominent critic and are likely to spark an outcry among his supporters and the international community, which has taken a close interest in his case.

China is sensitive to any threat to Communist Party rule and clamps down on all dissent, illustrated by the recent furor over the flight from house arrest by blind activist Chen Guangcheng.

Ai told Reuters that the restrictions of his bail, linked to suspected economic crimes, were lifted on Thursday but police said he could not travel as he is "suspected of other crimes" including pornography, bigamy and illicit exchange of foreign currency.

Police in Beijing were not immediately available for comment.

"WE NEVER EVEN TOUCHED EACH OTHER"

Ai said police brought up a photograph that Ai had taken in 2010, sitting next to four women, all five of them naked, in a studio pose. Police told Ai that a file of the photograph had been opened online more than 1,000 times, and that meant he was effectively spreading pornography, he said.

Ai said the four women had posted the photograph "as a joke".

"We never even touched each other," Ai said. "It's nothing. Nobody will say that's pornography. I asked them why this is pornography. They said under our policy, if there's nudity, if people try to open a file many times, like over 1,000 times, that's pornography. They have a law like that, which is ridiculous."

Ai, who is married, also denies the charge of bigamy. He openly meets a girlfriend and has a three-year-old son from that relationship.

On the possible charge of "illicit exchange of foreign currency", Ai said police told him that it concerned a project in 2008, when he invited 100 foreign architects to Inner Mongolia and arranged for a Swiss gallery to pay them in euros, while he got yuan currency in return.

Ai, 55, said that when he asked police how long the investigation could take, he was told it could go on for "as long as they want it, it could be years".

"I feel this shows that they are trying to intimidate, trying to put pressure on a citizen to tell you who's the authority and still to punish me for doing what I've been doing," Ai said.

"I'm still paying a price for that, paying a price for freely communicating and discussing and giving out opinions and criticizing different matters."

Under the conditions of his release from 81 days in detention, Ai was not allowed to post anything on Twitter, travel or accept interviews for a year.

But the bearded artist has still been a persistent irritant to authorities, communicating with his supporters on Twitter and calling for a public forum to discuss a tax case.

The company that markets Ai's work is challenging a penalty of 15 million yuan ($2.4 million) for supposed tax evasion, a charge supporters have dismissed as trumped up. Police warned him to stay away from the hearing on Wednesday.

Ai said police told him on Thursday morning that he "should not talk to the press, you should not criticize the government".

Ai said he had consulted a lawyer.

"The lawyer said: they cannot do that, because once you're free from probation, you're a free man. If they want to charge you, they have to make a case," Ai said.

When Ai was detained, interrogators threatened to level charges of subversion, pornography and bigamy against him, he told Reuters earlier.

Police have not returned Ai's passport, he said, adding that they have also restricted the ability of his wife to travel.

(AP) ? A Syrian fighter pilot on a training mission flew his MiG-21 warplane to Jordan on Thursday and asked for political asylum, the first defection of an air force pilot with his plane during the 15-month uprising against President Bashar Assad.

The pilot, identified as Col. Hassan Hammadeh, removed his air force tag and kneeled on the tarmac in prayer after landing his plane at King Hussein Air Base in Mafraq, Jordan, 45 miles (70 kilometers) north of Amman, a Jordanian security official said. The official insisted on anonymity, citing the sensitivity of the matter.

The defection was a triumph for the rebels who are fighting to overthrow Assad. The air force is considered fiercely loyal to the government, and the defection suggests some of Syria's most ironclad allegiances are fraying. A spokesman for the rebel Free Syrian Army, Ahmad Kassem, said the group had encouraged the pilot to defect and monitored his activity until the jet landed safely in Jordan. He said the pilot was based in southern Syria.

Syria's state-run TV reported earlier in the day that authorities had lost contact with a MiG-21 that was on a training mission in the country. The report gave no further details.

Jordanian Information Minister Sameeh Maaytah confirmed that the pilot had defected.

The defection is a sensitive issue for Jordan, which wants to avoid getting dragged into the Syrian conflict. Jordan already has taken in 125,000 Syrian refugees, including hundreds of army and police defectors, and Syria is seeking their extradition.

Syria is one of Jordan's largest Arab trade partners, with bilateral trade estimated at $470 million last year.

The Syrian regime has been hit with defections before, although none as dramatic as the fighter pilot's. Most have been low-level conscripts in the army.

In March, however, Turkish officials said that two Syrian generals, a colonel and two sergeants had defected from the army and crossed into Turkey. Also in March, Syria's deputy oil minister became the highest-ranking civilian official to join the opposition and urged his countrymen to "abandon this sinking ship" as the nation spiraled toward civil war.

Brig. Gen. Mostafa Ahmad al-Sheik, who fled to Turkey in January, was the highest ranking officer to bolt. In late August, Adnan Bakkour, the attorney general of the central city of Hama, appeared in a video announcing he had defected.

In January, Imad Ghalioun, a member of Syria's parliament, left the country to join the opposition saying the Syrian people are suffering sweeping human rights violations.

Heyward hits 2 HRs as Braves outslug Yankees

By HOWIE RUMBERG

AP Sports Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 5:08 p.m. ET June 20, 2012

NEW YORK (AP) - Jason Heyward and the Atlanta Braves never intended to challenge the powerful New York Yankees to a game of home run derby in the Bronx. Still, they came out ahead.

Heyward hit two of a record nine homers at the new Yankee Stadium and the Braves outslugged the Yankees for a 10-5 victory in the sweltering heat Wednesday.

"We survived," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said.

Freddie Freeman, Martin Prado, Heyward and David Ross all connected off Phil Hughes (7-6) to build a 6-1 lead on a sticky, 94-degree afternoon. Michael Bourn stole what might've been another home run from Jayson Nix after missing an earlier opportunity for a try at a leaping grab.

Alex Rodriguez hit his 640th career homer, and Robinson Cano, Derek Jeter and Eric Chavez all hit long balls against Tommy Hanson (8-4).

"It's just that kind of ballpark," Heyward said, "but at the same time we got two teams that are capable of hitting some home runs."

The Yankees, who have a major league-leading 105 homers, managed just four other hits in their second straight loss after a 10-game winning streak. They pulled to 6-5 on Curtis Granderson's RBI single in the seventh but Rodriguez ended the inning with a double-play grounder.

"It's been up and down, like a lot of our other hitters," manager Joe Girardi said of Rodriguez's season.

In the eighth, Freeman hit an RBI single and Heyward a two-run shot off Boone Logan to help Atlanta pull away for its third win in 10 games and second straight against New York. The Yankees swept the Braves in Atlanta last week.

Heyward had the go-ahead hit Tuesday night and added a triple.

"We're really, really good when Jason's swinging the bat well."

Even though he didn't start in a day game after playing Tuesday night, Chipper Jones still was a factor early. In the final year of a Hall of Fame-worthy career, Jones was honored before his last regular-season game against the Yankees. On behalf of the Yankees, Jeter and former Braves teammate Andruw Jones gave Chipper third base from Tuesday's game. In 19 years with Atlanta, Chipper Jones faced the Yankees in two World Series.

With the sun beating down on the crowd of 45,094, the public address announcer urged fans visit the cooling stations set up in the concourses.

Girardi emphasized how important it was to be aggressive early on a day that felt as if it were over 100 degrees with the oppressive humidity. The Braves were.

Bourn singled leading off and, with two outs, stole second without a throw. He scored on Dan Uggla's single to left. Freeman wasted no time, connecting on the first pitch he saw for a two-run drive into the New York bullpen in right-center to make it 3-0.

Jeter got one back with his fourth leadoff homer of the season, hitting Hanson's first pitch into the stands in right-center.

"When Jeter caught that one in the first, I was like `here we go,"' Ross said.

Hanson only gave up one hit after Jeter's homer until Chavez led off the fifth with a drive to straightaway center field. Bourn watched the homer clear the fence and land in the netting over Monument Park then jumped and smacked his hand to glove.

Bourn made the play he wanted after a walk to Russell Martin, ranging far to his right to snare Nix's fly above the wall to protect a 6-2 lead.

Heyward stood at the fence in right field and watched Rodriguez's high fly leading off the sixth carry into the stands. The RBI was A-Rod's 1,925th, breaking a tie with Jimmie Foxx for sole possession of sixth on the career list.

Cano followed with a smash deep into the stands in right-center to end Hanson's day for the Yankees' third back-to-back homers of the season - one was three in a row.

Hanson matched a career high with the four homers allowed. He came in 6-0 with a 1.22 ERA against AL East teams, but gave up four runs in five-plus innings this time.

All season Hughes has been hurt by the homer, giving up at least one in each of his first 12 starts before keeping the ball in the park in his previous outing. The career-most four allowed Wednesday boosted his total to a majors-leading 19 this year.

"He just didn't have great location today," Girardi said.

NOTES: Teams have combined to hit eight homers at the ballpark that opened in 2009 three times. ... Mark Teixeira was out of the Yankees lineup Wednesday. He was hit on the left foot by Heyward's hard grounder Tuesday night and Girardi said the first baseman was still sore. He doubled as a pinch-hitter in the eighth. ... Former Yankees center fielder Bernie Williams was chosen as manager of the World Team in the All-Star weekend Futures Game for minor leaguers on Sunday, July 8 in Kansas City. ... The 94 degrees at game time was not the hottest start for Atlanta. It was 97 degrees in Arizona when they faced the Diamondbacks on April 21 with the roof open. ... The Yankees are the last team to allow 10 runs in a game. ... Heyward has three multihomer games.

Tiananmen anniversary keeps Chinese censors on edge (+video)

Beijing still shows extreme sensitivity to the 1989 crackdown in Tiananmen Square. China's version of Twitter is censoring everything from today's date to the word 'candle.'

For Beijing, the date, ?6.4? as it has become known in China, is one not to be commemorated, but rather obliterated from the calendar. The government has always refused to discuss what happened when soldiers were ordered to disperse pro-democracy demonstrators on Tiananmen Square. Officially, they killed only about 200 protesters; but activists? estimates range from several hundreds to several thousands.

The official blanket denial of the date has worked, to a large extent: Few ordinary Chinese citizens under the age of 30 are aware of the Tiananmen demonstrations or their tragic end. But censors remain determined to foil any attempt by people who do know what happened to say anything about it. Anything at all.

Censors at Sina Weibo, the popular Twitter-like social media platform, were working overtime to block searches for ? or references to ? ?6.4? or other obvious signifiers such as ?tank,? ?crush,? ?never forget,? and ?square.?

?535? was a forbidden term, too, because Internet users have taken to referring to May 35,? instead of June 4. Classically minded censors wouldn?t let you post anything with VIIIIXVIIV in it either, in case readers familiar with Roman numerals could decipher 89.6.4. And by late afternoon, even the word ?today? had been banned.

Over the weekend, Sina Weibo disabled its candle icon, which users might find an appropriate symbol with which to commemorate the Tiananmen dead. An explanation from the website said the icon was ?currently being optimized? but nobody believed it. Before long there were 200,000 posts on Sina referring to ?Weibo? and ?candle? and the next thing anyone knew, the word ?candle? itself became a banned search term.

As if to highlight the absurdity of how hard Sina Weibo censors were working, an impeccable and seemingly?irrelevant source of information, the Shanghai Stock Exchange, suddenly turned subversive. By an extraordinary coincidence (or maybe not), the Shanghai Composite Index, which measures the market?s daily movement, fell on Monday by 64.89 points, in an uncensorable reminder of the date of the massacre.

Though the official campaign to airbrush the Tiananmen Square events out of Chinese history has been successful with most citizens, there are some, of course, who can never forget because their own children died.

One such father, Ya Weilin, apparently exhausted and driven to despair by his failure after nearly a quarter of a century to persuade the government to account for his son?s death, hanged himself 10 days ago. Tiananmen is still claiming victims; 23 years ago they were felled by bullets. Today they succumb to silence.

Greeks voted Sunday for the second time in six weeks in what was arguably their country's most critical election in 40 years, with the country's treasured place within the European Union's joint currency in the balance.

Greece's election result has eased fears of imminent financial disaster for Europe, but the continent's leaders are still searching for a way to contain a debt crisis that threatens the global economy.

A narrow victory for the New Democracy party in Greece means that the country is more likely to stick to the harsh austerity terms of its ?240 billion ($300 billion) bailout and not face a chaotic exit from the euro in the very near future ? an event many fear would destabilize Europe and send shockwaves through the world.

The country's economy is still in a very vulnerable state, however. It is in a fifth straight year of recession and could easily deteriorate to point where a default and euro exit were inevitable.

RECOMMENDED:?Greece vote tempers threat of eurozone departure

Europe is struggling to put out several fires, not just the one in Greece. Heavily indebted Spain and Italy saw their borrowing costs rise Monday, increasing pressure on their government finances and keeping alive fears that another big bailout might be needed. That would considerably strain the eurozone's ability to protect its members and keep the currency union together.

"The crisis is far from over," Commerzbank analyst Christoph Weil said in a note to investors. "A sovereign default by Greece and the country's exit from the monetary union have probably been avoided for the time being. "

The eurozone's challenges run deep. The economy is expected to shrink this year, with the so-called peripheral countries like Greece and Spain in painful recession. Many of its banks remain on life support, propped up by emergency credit from the European Central Bank.

Europe is a substantial trading partner with the rest of the world. If it falls into a deep recession sparked by a default in Greece or a massive bailout for Spain, orders for goods made in the U.S. and China are going to start falling off.

No clear route out of the crisis has been laid out, and expectations are uncertain whether a June 28-29 summit of European leaders in Brussels will prove any more convincing than previous ones that failed to restore confidence.

"The crisis in Greece and the eurozone remains intense," Fitch Ratings said. "While the risks from Greece have fallen for now, the severity of the systemic crisis engulfing the eurozone is unlikely to diminish until European leaders articulate a credible road-map that would complete monetary union with much greater fiscal and financial integration."

One beneficiary of Sunday's result in Greece may be President Barack Obama, who has urged European leaders to take more vigorous action to avoid a threat to the U.S. and global economies. The election win for New Democracy increases the likelihood that any disruptive Greek exit from the eurozone would not happen until after Obama's contest with challenger Mitt Romney in the November U.S. presidential election, rather than before.

Key developments Monday:

In Greece, cleanup crews swept up Athens' central Syntagma Square and took down election posters as Greeks waited for the formation of a new government that's unlikely to bring any immediate relief to the suffering of people who have lost jobs and small businesses in a 5-year-old recession and financial crisis.

New Democracy was starting talks to form a coalition government Monday morning after securing a narrow victory over left-wing Syriza, which advocated rejecting the deep spending cuts demanded in return for its bailout from other eurozone governments and the International Monetary Fund. A coalition partner could include old socialist rival PASOK, which led the country until late last year.

"We'll breathe easier when there's a government in place," said George Moutafidis, who runs a sandwich shop in the Syntagma Square. "Yesterday's result is somewhat positive, but we need a government in place to start making decisions."

Greece faces a difficult road no matter who is in charge. The economy has shrunk for five straight years, unemployment is at 21.7 percent, and 52.7 percent for under-25s. Credit has dried up for businesses as Greek banks struggle and wary lenders from abroad hesitate to trust businesses with bleak futures.

Continued bailout money hinges on keeping to the terms of an agreement to cut spending and make Greece's bureaucracy-choked economy more business friendly so it can grow out of its troubles in the long term.

Yet Greece's plummeting economy is making it harder for it to reduce its budget deficit by the required about. Failure to keep to the bailout deal could result in an aid cutoff, leaving the government unable to pay its obligations.

The previous government said Greece would run out of money July 20 if more funds are not received.

A New Democracy-led government would open the way to talks with international creditors on getting it more time to fix Greece's finances. European officials are signaling a willingness to talk.

However German Chancellor Angela Merkel indicated that finding room for negotiation might not be so easy. Talking to reporters at the G20 summit in Mexico, Merkel insisted that Greece had to hold its side of the bargain and that "we have to count on Greece sticking to its commitments." This appeared to dial back remarks late Sunday by German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle. He said Greece had to implement all agreed reforms, but that "I can well imagine talking again about timelines."

Many analysts think Greece may still wind up leaving the euro, either to improve its economy's competitiveness through introducing a weaker currency, or because it may need to print its own money to bail out banks or pay salaries when it can't get credit anywhere else.

The country was originally supposed to identify ?11.5 billion in budget cuts for the next two years year by the end of this month. That deadline has probably slipped, and the new government may seek to make the cuts over a longer period.

However giving Greece more time to close a budget deficit now estimated at 6.7 percent this year raises new complications. Money will have to be found to cover the large deficit, and Greece is unable to borrow on bond markets to do that. Analysts have suggested Europe's leaders might have to eventually give Greece easier terms on repaying money owed to the European Central Bank or the IMF, or tap ?50 billion in funds committed to recapitalizing its banks.

Spain's borrowing costs spiraled higher in a sign markets remained deeply skeptical about Europe's chances to contain and end the crisis. Interest rates, or yields, on 10-year government bonds ? a key indicator of how bad the crisis is ? spiked to just over 7 percent. That indicates increasing doubt that the country will be able to manage without a bailout like the ones received by Greece, Ireland and Portugal.

Yet Spain is bigger than the three bailout countries combined, and would stretch the eurozone's ?500 billion bailout fund if help were needed. The country has already asked for ?100 billion to bailout its banking system, weighed down with heavy losses on bad real estate loans.

Italy has also been caught up in concerns that it might soon be able to keep a lid on its debt without help. Its economy is the third largest in Europe, after Germany and France, but it has a massive amount of debt. The worry is that if Italy's economy continues to slow, it won't be able to maintain its debt. Italian bond yields Monday rose to 6.07 percent.

Meanwhile, Europe's governments are struggling to agree on measures to put new foundation under the euro. Without agreement on bold new steps, the June 28-29 summit of European leaders may fall short of expectations and lead to even more market tension ? as such several such summits have typically done in the past.

Hopes are high for a substantial response from governments during the summit, which will include leaders such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel and France's president, Francois Hollande.

Merkel has sought to lower expectations for big steps at the summit, but European Central Bank President Mario Draghi, one of those working on proposals for the meeting, said last week that "markets and people need to be reassure that we are still traveling together."

European leaders have conceded the euro's foundations were flawed when it was introduced in 1999. Rules against big deficits failed to keep governments from running up too much debt through overspending, as in Greece, or needing to bail out banks, as in Ireland and Spain. Proposals could include some form of common borrowing, tighter central EU control of individual countries' spending and debt, and centralized supervision and bailouts of weak banks.

Yet all proposals are controversial because they involve countries giving up authority over their finances, and Germany, the biggest eurozone member and in relatively good shape, is opposed to being put on the hook for other people's debts.

Microsoft demos support for NFC-enabled ads, business cards in Windows Phone 8

Microsoft spent plenty of time talking about its NFC-based mobile wallet for Windows Phone 8 today, but it has more than just payments and loyalty cards in mind for the technology. It's also showed off how a Windows Phone 8 device can be used to scan NFC-enabled advertisements or business cards. In the case of ads, Microsoft's Joe Belfiore used a recent issue of Wired to demonstrate how you can simply tap an ad in a magazine and have content pushed straight to your phone -- something that could also be used with posters or other ads out in public. With NFC-enabled business cards, you'd have the ability to automatically import a person's contact information simply by taping their card to your phone which, incidentally, is something that can also be done directly between two Windows Phone 8 devices (a la Android Beam).

Microsoft demos support for NFC-enabled ads, business cards in Windows Phone 8 originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 20 Jun 2012 13:05:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Moderate background noise enhances creativity and makes consumers more likely to buy new and innovative products, according to a new study in the Journal of Consumer Research.

"A moderate level of noise enhances creativity compared to both low and high levels of noise," write authors Ravi Mehta (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign), Ryu (Juliet) Zhu (University of British Columbia), and Amar Cheema (University of Virginia). "Moderate background noise induces distraction which encourages individuals to think at a higher, abstract level, and consequently exhibit higher creativity."

The authors created a noise environment similar to that of a roadside diner or a noisy mall and tested people's creativity at different levels of background noise. When asked to come up with ideas for a new type of mattress or list uncommon uses for a common object, consumers were most creative when the background noise was moderate compared to lower or higher noise conditions.

"For individuals looking for creative solutions to daily problems, instead of burying oneself in a quiet room trying to figure out a solution, walking out of one's comfort zone and getting into a relatively noisy environment (such as a caf) may trigger the brain to think abstractly, and thus generate creative ideas," write the authors.

The authors also found that consumers were more likely to choose an innovative product over a traditional one when there was a moderate level of background noise. For example, consumers were much more likely to choose a pair of running shoes with new and innovative features over a standard pair at this optimal level of background noise.

"A moderate level of noise not only enhances creativity but also leads to greater adoption of innovative products. In order to encourage adoption of new and innovative products, companies might consider equipping their showrooms with a moderate level of ambient noise," the authors conclude.

Day X, Month X, Year 20XX, Sunny

Today I arrived in Wing City. This place is huge, and I wasn't sure where to go, so I asked someone where I can find something interesting. Know what they told me? 'None of your damn business, toots!' Well, after giving that person a good seventy whacks with my sword, they recommended Gambit's bar. Off to Gambit's I went, and, after getting a cup of sake, I heard something like a wail across the bar. The wail turned out to be from something called an Eevee, which looks like a white sort- of fox thing, but this 'Eevee' also claimed to be a ghost- thing. Well, after seeing it grow a pair of freaking wings, I believed it. So, then a Lamia, who I still believe to be a type of demon, walked into the bar, and I freaked. We all know how much I hate demons. In any case, she offered to pay for my meal, so I guess not all demons are bad...
